Yippie-Ki-Yay, Mother F@#$er
Die Hard--Eleven-year-old Ian saw it on video, one of his first R-Rated movies. Soooooo hooked. His dad bought him his own copy.
Die Hard 2: Die Harder--Even at 12, this was an awful title. Ian saw it at a Mann's Theatre in L.A. with siblings and their good friends, The Taheris. First movie that Ian followed in production (right before Batman Returns, that is...). Not as iconic but still a ride.
Die Hard With A Vengeance--Ian saw it in the theaters, back in Boise, the summer before his senior year in high school. Missed John McClane's sometimes-wife Holly but Jeremy Irons and Samuel L. Jackson had fun and original director McTiernan was back. Rockin' action but only an entertaining movie. Nowhere near the mythic first film.
Live Free Or Die Hard--Nearly-29-year-old Ian is going to the Egyptian Theatre in Boise, with some friends and his brother, to catch the new one. Ian's nervous about the PG-13 (it's the iconic line folks; can he even say it with this rating? Ian wants his action old-fashioned: with the 'R' and not the 'P.C.'). He's also nervous about the director and the twelve years since the last one. Ian looks forward to some decent action and fun, though. The original is the only beloved entry in this series. With two movies that failed to measure up, what's one more right? Worth a shot and some popcorn...
