Watched two awesome documentaries this week: "Double Dare" and "Microcosmos." I have a huge showbiz-crush on Zoe Bell (one of the two stuntwomen featured in "Dare") and there was a lot of humor and heart in the piece but "Microcosmos" was the real find. The doc's photography of backyard dwellers was so good, it made me re-evaluate what REAL special effects are.
"Flight of the Conchords" is an amazing HBO comedy show for those of you who are behind in their pop culture, like I am, that might have missed the gem. It's like Tenacious D but better. The techno-folk numbers Bret and Jermaine belt in their cell-phone-camera-shot music videos more than keep up with my wicked memories of JB and Kyle rocking their acoustic, well, rock.
I'm reading "The Post-American World" by Fareed Zakaria and wonder how human beings get to be this smart. But it's surprisingly gripping reading that leaves behind any dryness in its fact stream. A nice primer on globalization being a positive force in the world.
The "Scott Pilgrim" comics from ONI Press are my favorite funny books of the last several years. They're Candian manga, humor, romance yarns that make the seemingly long wait between volumes (I'm new to the series--there seems to be one volume a year) unbearable.
Hope everyone's well!
